Dagon (2001)

Director: Stuart Gordon

Writer: H.P. Lovecraft

Tagline: Damned Town…An Ancient Worship…A Nightmare Turned Reality

Actors
: Ezra Godden, Francisco Rabal, Raquel Meroño, Macarena Gómez, Brendan Price, Birgit Bofarull

Runtime: 1h 38m

Synopsis: A relaxing sailing trip with a few friends goes awry for a young couple. Their boat gets wrecked and they are forced to swim to the shore of a supposedly deserted port city. While investigating the wet, abandoned village, the couple gets the feeling that something is wrong. The inhabitants are not what they seem and the story behind this little port city is as fishy as its people.

Review: Bad acting, bad plot, makeup and costumes weren't bad though. Was very disappointed in the turnout of Dagon the creature, wasn't expecting a Sarlac (you Star Wars nerds get the reference), or an underground octopus-like creature. Apart from the negatives, it held me pretty much all the way through. I just had to see what happened but probably would not see it again.

Rating: 12. Was not terribly impressed but was not horribly disappointed. Don't go running out to grab this B rater but don't discount it totally. If you have time and money to waste...remember Dagon. (12of25).
