Review: Wow! I have been looking forward to seeing this flick since After Dark’s 8 Films To Die For came out last November. And I was not disappointed. I was so very impressed with this movie that I was glued to the screen the entire time. With a compelling story and some terrific gore, this movie is one to be reckoned with.

The story alone was wonderful. Although the concept is overplayed now-a-days, this spin was actually refreshing. It was a new look at “the same old story”, with some very cool plot-points and great background. I think that the story was very well laid out, conceptually, considering that this is not your average ghost story. The background on Alita Covas was so very compelling that I found myself craving more. That might actually be the only thing I didn’t like about this movie; the lack of expansion given during the explanation of Alita’s past. I could have done with a five minute flashback or something. Apart from that, I could safely say that this movie was absolutely awesome.

The acting, albeit slightly hoaky, was not that bad. I found myself focusing more on Corri English herself rather than her acting. The rest of the cast was average for all being unknown, nothing to write home about. But some of the acting was convincing, with some lines that played well to the character’s personality. But overall the acting was just alright.

The gore…uh…wow. The gore was just astounding. Not necessarily the amount, but more of the context. The use of the blood and gore was so well executed that no unnecessary overkill was needed. They were not looking to shock and disgust you with the gore, but to give a realistic effect of violence. I thought that they did an excellent job and I was pleased to see a movie of this caliber and genre, carry so much restraint. Letting that alone, from what I understand, the tagline is no farce. Sources have told me that this is actually the first movie to use real cadavers, shot in an actual operating morgue. That itself scars the crap out of me. Just knowing that the setting is real and the “props” aren’t actually props is something to take note of.

Rating: 23. I would have given it a 24 if it were not for the lack of expansion during the background story of Alita and the average acting. Apart from those two things this movie was one of the best I’ve seen in a while. If you get the chance, don’t bother renting it…buy it. You will very sorry if you don’t catch this flick…because I’m coming to kick your ass! Just kidding…but not really. Buy this movie! Do it! I don’t care if your wife doesn’t like you buying movies, just go and get it. What? Blackbuster, Best Buy, Circuit City, FYE, I don’t care just find it. You’re on the Internet…use it dumb-ass! Yes I am being mean, because you’re being stupid. No, I don’t care. Ok, this conversation is over…(23of25).
