Synopsis: A new reality game show is the site of the massacre of almost all of its players. “The Apocalypse” is America’s newest spin-off of the hit reality series Survivor. Each player must fend for themselves in a doomsday-like environment, while completing missions set up by the producers. Their host is retired Marine Colonel Dale Murphy, who will be assisting them in the eliminations. As they are set loose into the forest, problems start. While they are out hunting for food, a grotesque family of degenerate inbreeders are hunting too…for them! The family hunts down everyone one by one until only a few are left. Can these few heroes stand against a family that has been going strong for over three generations? Who will survive THIS apocalypse?

Review: After watching the first film, I was hesitant about this one. I was hoping for a better story, better acting, and more gore. Well, I’m here to tell you…I got most of it! This straight-to-DVD movie should have been on the silver screen and it’s a shame that it will never be. This is one of the few sequels that give the original a run for its money. I tell you now, this film made me smile from beginning to end…and you will too.

The story was a bit more confusing than it should have been. The whole game show bit seemed to overpower the main story more than it should have, but it was interesting in its own rite. I liked the way they moved the story around though; making them fend for themselves then fight for their lives…very nice. It seemed more realistic then the first for some reason, I can’t quite put my finger on it. I think it might be because of the deaths of the two people you would expect to survive. Almost like, the average person can fight back too. With absolutely no segue, the back story that I would have liked from the first film finally made it into this one; where these freaks came from, where’s the rest of them, who fathered these monstrosities. All answered here. And that little twistie will bring a little smile to your face.

The acting was not as great as I had hoped. I guess it’s commonplace for straight-to-DVD movies but I gotta say, it wasn’t that bad. I would have liked to have seen some more commitment out of the freaks, of all people. It seemed as though the writers were trying to portray them as a happy family without a care in the world; especially the scene were they are all sitting down at the dinner table and start praying…PRAYING! Get that, these freaks, these killers, these degenerate inbreeders, were actually praying. That’s like…a hooker wearing a cross! But the main actors seemed to make par for the course. I was pleased to see some more realistic acting out of some more realistic characters.

The gore was, dare I say it, better than the first. It was almost perfect! That first scene of that chick getting blanked in blank by that blank with that huge blank. I did that so I don’t spoil anything. But trust me, that scene was wicked awesome! And it wasn’t the last; the more the blood flowed and the chunkies flew the more the gore had actually taken more precedence over the story, the acting, and the script…just like in Barricade (2007). It was done very well with no hose-like blood-squirting (although I do love that trick), and it was controlled enough to not get out of hand. Definitely and A+ for this section.

Rating: 22. I liked this movie better than the first. It was bloodier and had more story, making it more informative and gross. I loved it. I would recommend that once it comes out on DVD October 9th, 2007 that you go down to your local video rental store and demand a copy of this movie. If you don’t, something bad will happen to you…you might get…SCABIES! Ha ha ha…I gave you scabies! Suck on it…keeps the saliva flowin’. (22of25).
