Synopsis: More or less the same story as the last movie. After the events of the first Hostel (2005), the Elite Hunting Organization not only finishes off any escapees, but continues with business as usual. Hostel: Part II (2007) is the story of three friends on vacation in Europe (Lorna, Beth, and Whitney), and two friends, Todd and Stuart, who hope to have the experience of a lifetime with Elite Hunting.

When the girls hook up with a model from their art class who tells them of great hot springs in Slovakia, the girls opt to go. Soon after they arrive the girls start to disappear one by one. At the same time, Todd and Stuart arrive in Slovakia and start their initiation process into Elite Hunting. All of this leads to a confrontation that will determine who comes out of Elite Hunting a hunter…and who comes out the hunted.

Review: Visually this was as good a movie as the first one. But it seems as though story-wise Hostel: Part II (2007) left a lot to be desired. All the stories together gave you nothing but…story. I thought this was supposed to be a story about death. I was expecting to see one of the sickest, most violent films this year, and I was left with minimal blood and gore, and unfinished storylines. In the beginning it started off promising with Paxton having nightmares about his experiences, and coming to find out he’s in hiding…because the organization let’s no one escape. After this, the story goes into the same tripe about stupid, young tourists who get tricked into going to the same hostelry, then mysteriously disappear. Only this time, we get another story about two new hunters, and an introduction to the leader of Elite Hunting.

The story of the new hunters (Todd and Stuart) is full of excitement and anticipation, but little else. And the owner of Elite Hunting gave the viewer nothing but and introduction, and the only reason for him being in the movie in the first place. Very little left me excited during the movie, except to wait and see the ending that was supposed to be the sickest ending ever.

After everything was said and done, we find out that Beth is incredibly rich and tries to buy her life back. She finds out that in order for her to leave…someone has to die. So she cuts off Stuart’s penis, feeds it to the dog, and walks out of the room. After her first murder, she gets her initiation into the organization, and proceeds to purchase the young model who set her and her friends up. She then chops off the girl’s head and lets the child-gang that works for the organization play kickball with the decapitated head. Very hilarious.

Rating: 12. I really don’t know what to say! Cage can vouch for me when I say that being left speechless is unusual for me, but Hostel: Part II (2007) left me highly disappointed. Not much death, just a lot of blood thrown around in hopes that no one noticed how much the story lacked body. It was just a rehash of the first story, just changing the lead characters from men to women. I was even shocked to find less nudity than the last movie. This was three storylines that added up to nothing but an incomplete movie. The writers should have tapped into the histories of torture and murder, and the ways to kill people, and come up with more visually powerful ways to keep people like me interested in watching this movie.

Personally, I was as bored with this movie as if I was watching Steel Magnolias…wow…I don’t even believe I compared those two films. (12of25).
